Further Experimentation

To experiment further with costumes for my project, I photographed a dress rehearsal of a school production. I wanted to try and photograph people when they are acting and therefore staying in the role of the character they have dressed up as. The play and therefore the costumes are set in the 1600s and so the costumes are very basic and plain. Where as my project is based on people who have weird hobbies and obsessions which may include dressing up, this is purely acting as so none of the people I have photographed here actually have a weird hobby and or obsession.

Where as all of my previous shoots have been in a photography studio with the lights, backdrop and flash, these images were photographed in a drama studio. Therefore it was a lot more difficult to get a good shot as the lighting was very dim and the people were moving around a lot. To get a good angle I moved around the stage as much as I could. I had to experiment with my settings to allow as much light as possible in as it was very dark and dim in the drama studio. For all of the images my ISO was 1600, my aperture 5.6 and my shutter speed 1/15 due to the conditions. I also had to manually control the focus as when I had it on auto focus, the images kept blurring due to the people moving around the stage.
Even though the costumes are very interesting and effective I won't be using photos from the school production in my final selection as my project is based on peoples real 'weird' and 'wonderful' obsessions and hobbies. These images aren't based on real hobbies instead they are based on acting. Another reason I won't be using them is due to the unreliability of the shoots. It won't be guaranteed that I can go back and do another shoot and so if I ever needed to reshoot any of the images which is a probable, I may not be able to.
